Muay Thai the ring sport was born as an art of war. By the sixteenth century Muay Thai was already recognised as part of the Thai Military training. It wasn’t until 1930 that the sports Muay Thai we see today was born (leather gloves, rounds per bout, and weight classes became the standard).

Example content image Muay Thai is different from other Kickboxing styles because it utilises all of the body’s natural weapons; fists, elbows, forearms, shins, knees and feet as well as incorporating throws.

Through safe training and proper guidelines Muay Thai has become an art that anybody can practice and benefit from.

Beginners - simply turn up to the beginners (boot camp) class. If its your first time, come 10 mins early. At the beginners class, we give close attention to the essential footwork and guard basics. As soon as you are comfortable with the basics, we move you on to the regular classes. This usually takes around six to eight lessons. In each lesson, some area of technique is considered, and each week you will see your abilities grow. As your skills develop, so will your fitness (both strength and stamina).

Thai Padwork – awesome for your fitness. You will be paired with either a Saints trainer or with another student of similar ability to yourself. Padwork consists almost solely of repeated high impact, timed rounds, using leather kick shields (pads) and leather punch bags. Here you will develop stamina and improved technique (power and execution)

We also deal with the practical /competitive side of the sport. At the fighters sessions, you can train side by side with our professional athletes. Areas covered are; ring craft, judging and scoring, mental and physical fight preparation – diet etc. Technique instruction is tailored to the individual student’s strengths and weaknesses.

Saints Muay Thai is female, beginner, junior and student friendly. There is no intimidation and no bullying. We have a safe, friendly environment.

How to join in.....

Simply turn up to Saints Gym 10 mins before your class starts. Bring a t-shirt and shorts (or tracky bottoms). Muay Thai is practiced barefoot - please keep your toe nails short.
The hardest part is turning up - once you are here, you will love it!
